It was yet another wonderful year for Boston sports. To help you relive this great  sports year, here are, in my opinion, the ten best plays of 2010.
1. Rondo's Game 4 triple double
In a must win playoff game against the Cavaliers, Rondo stepped up big time, having one of the best games of his career. With the Celtics down 2-1 in the series and opening Game Four down 7-0, Rondo took over. He had 29 points, 13 assists and 18 rebounds. Whenever Boston needed a basket he made it happen whether scoring it himself or making the right pass, the basket was coming through him. Including a behind he back fast break pass to TA for a dunk, making Lebron look silly and the game clinching offensive rebound and put back. This was an incredibly clutch performance from  Rondo and kept the Cleveland series and the C's playoff run alive and that is why it is #1.

2. Patriots dominate Jets, 45-3
In a game that had enough hype to make someone think it was the AFC championship, the Patriots made it look like they were playing a local high school team. They dominated this game from start to finish and left the Jets speechless. This was a huge message sent to the Jets and the rest of the league. The Pats showed they were, without question, the best team in the NFL with thisstatement game, and that is why it #2.

3. Shrek and Donkey
In another must win game 4 it was not Rondo who stepped up, it was Glen Davis and Nate Robinson. In game 4 of the Finals, again with the Celtics down 2-1, Big Baby and Nate Robinson stole the show. They combined for 30 points (18 by Big Baby, 12 by Nate). With them playing so well, Doc made the wise decision to keep them in for most of the 4th quarter. His faith in his second unit was rewarded when Big Baby got an offensive rebound and put it back up for an and one, then celebrated with Nate on his back and ultimately they won the game tying the series 2-2. My favorite part was the post game press conference where they said they are like shrek and donkey. The clutch performance along with the hilarious post game press conference make this #3.

4. Marc Savard game winning goal
Before game one against the Flyers, Marc Savard had not played since March 7th after suffering a bad concussion. How big of an impact he would be upon his return was a big question. He answered all those questions with a game winning goal in overtime. The return from the concussion and clutch performance make this #4.

5. Rondo reaches through Jason Williams legs
This moment just defines the Boston Celtics and the series against the Magic up to that point. With the Celtics having already opened up a big lead on the Magic in the second quarter of game 3, the ball was deflected and was rolling down the court Jason Williams jogged after it, Rondo sprinted, dove through Williams' legs, took it away, spun and layed it up. This is a replay that will be forever played making it #5.

6. Dan Connolly's kick return
With a potential let-down game in the making, one of, if not the most unlikely plays occurred to give the Pats new life and prevent a let-down game. The Pats were down 17-7 with 2 minutes to go in the half. The Packers squib kicked the ball and Dan Connolly picked it up, he covered the ball with two hands, saw a hole and ran through it. Then he was off to the races, stiff armed a defender, cut past the kicker and then was hit from behind at the 4. This kept the Pats from losing and we will never see anything like it again, making it #6.

7. Ray Allen shoots the lights out
In yet another must win playoff game for the Celtics another player stepped up big to bring home the W. This time it was Ray Allen, he entered one of those zones where everything that left his sweet shooting stroke went in. He just kept getting open and hitting threes, he hit an NBA finals record 8 threes, including 7 in the first half resembling Michael Jordan's game one against the Blazers. His incredible shooting led the C's to victory making it #7.

8. Patrick Chung's trifecta
Pat Chung and the special teams got it done for the Pats when they played the Dolphins. First Brandon Tate returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. From then on it was the Pat Chung show, he blocked a punt, blocked a field goal and then picked off a Chad Henne pass and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown. He got the trifecta making this #8.

9. Paul Pierce game winner
With the Celtics up 2-0 against the Heat they had a chance to make the series out of reach for the Heat. Tied up with 7 seconds left the Celtics had the ball. Everyone knew who the ball was going to and probably what move he was going to do. As expected Paul Pierce got the ball isolated at  the top of the key, he then dribbled in and did his patented step back jumper from the top of the key and hit it as the buzzer sounded. This was classic Paul Pierce and a heck of a game winner making it #9.

10. Red Sox's newcomers
Two Red Sox players made all of us fans very quickly, those two were Darnell McDonald and Daniel Nava. Both had incredible performances their first time at Fenway. Daniel Nava came up to bat with the bases loaded against the Phillies, when he stepped to the plate and his name popped on the screen everyone in Boston said "Who?". It wasn't long before we all knew his name, he hit the first pitch he saw for a grand slam. Like Nava, Darnell McDonald was new on the scene but made us all fans fast, he pinch hit in the eighth, hitting a game tying home run. If that wasn't enough to make you a fan he topped it with the game winning hit in the bottom of the ninth. Nava and McDonald making fans out of all of us with their great first performance makes this #10.

It was very hard to make this list and have to leave some great moments out. So, I have also given the honorable mention below. If you think I have left any out please comment.
-Rondo begins season dishing out assists
-Brady breaks Kosar's record
-Patriots draft McCourty, Gronkowski, Hernandez, Spikes, Cunningham and Mesko
-Patriots sign Woodhead
-Patriots drop Randy and sign Branch
-Comeback win against the Ravens
-James sanders picks Manning to win the game (probably the hardest to leave out)
-Winter Classic, Bruins winning in overtime
-Wes Welker comes back from torn ACL ahead of schedule and score two td's in first game of season (also very hard to leave out)
-Red Sox sign Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez
-Celtics sign Shaq
-Celtics open season beating the Heat

I don't know which one of these stories is the most ridiculous. Do they ever quit? If a 45-3 beating couldn't shut them up, I don't know what will.  First, they decide that after a 45 to 3 loss to the Patriots that playing by the rules just isn't working and they come up with a genius plan:
Rex- Well we just lost 45-3* time to go back to the drawing board.
Brian- Yeah, they're definitely better than us.
Rex- Bill was just too smart for us, if we could just find some of his tricks and take them, then maybe we could be better.
Brian- Yeah or we could prepare for games instead of making foot fetish videos*.....
Rex- No, I've got it, we'll take one of Bill's smart, legal, tricks and make it illegal so it'll work better. Then if we get caught we can just blame it on the Pats.
Brian- That's genius! What did you have in mind?
Rex- We could set up a wall on a punt return, then trip the gunner.
Brian- Great idea! But we can't trip another player, our reputations would be ruined.
Rex- You're right. Let's just have some low-level coach looking to make the 6 o'clock news do it.
Brian- Let's have that Sal guy do it, he seems eager to help the team.
Rex- Sure, we'll pay him to do it then keep his mouth shut when he gets suspended.

I would not at all be suprised if that is exactly how it went down. How likely is it that a low level strength coach could organize this whole thing by himself. No, he was taking orders from the boss. And they definitely had this, it's the Patriot's fault thing up their sleeve the whole time waiting to pull it out. Then when they realized that blaming it on us wasn't working, a Jets fan and season ticket holder brings up a Spygate lawsuit and asks the nation's highest court to review it.  Give me a break,
Brian-Now the whole world knows we cheat, what do we do?
Rex- Let's just bring up Spygate again, then everyone will forget that we ever cheated.
At the end of the day, which is the classier organization. The one that had a legal extra camera angle, but just illegally used it in a game. Or, the team that trips other players. To me the answer is obvious, regardless of how illegal or how big of an impact either have on an actual game it comes down to the fact that the Jets endangered an oppossing player. What they did was very dangerous, a player that is running full speed* down the field and gets tripped is bound to get hurt. Nolan Caroll was lucky it was only a minor injury because it easily could have been much worse.
(Sidenote- The Patriots have a better record and better stats post-spygate)
*I'm gonna mention 45-3 as much as I can, because let's face it, that is one of the best Patriot's beatdowns we will ever see. And it couldn't have happened to a better team.
*Darelle Revis might have been in a video with Rex Ryan's wife. I'm not kidding, look it up.
*Nolan Caroll runs a 4.4, that is fast.

All of Boston collectively shared an "Oh no, not again" last night as the C's took on the Pistons at the Palace. After a not uncommon slow start against the inferior Pistons team the C's found themselves quickly down by 9 near the end of the first quarter. After a full timeout Boston came out with a well run pick and roll between Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, resulting in a momentous dunk by KG. This looked like the spark that Boston needed at that point in the game but it turned out to be the exact opposite. I got up from my couch and cheered for the first time and only time for the game, but the cheer was short lived. I did not realize it at the time but as KG hung on the rim he was grimacing in pain and when he let go of the rim he hopped around on one leg in pain. An all too familiar and scary sight for Boston fans. The Celtics then intentionally fouled and KG went to the floor in clear pain. Eddy Lacerte came onto the court and talked to KG for a few seconds then he walked off the court under his own power with his hands covering his face. At this point the rest of the game didn't matter anymore, I didn't care that the Celtics ended up losing their 2d out of 3 games after winning 14 straight. I just wanted the game to end and hear Doc River's postgame press conference about KG's injury. And he said to my relief, "It is a muscle injury, not a knee.... We don't think this one is too bad, but we'll see. He'll probably miss some time, and we'll have to adjust."
So its not what we wanted at the beginning of the night but injuries happen in the NBA (but mostly just to the Celtics) and you have to just roll with the punches and look for the silver lining. So here it is here is my silver lining. Rondo is coming back tomorrow and I don't need to tell you how big of an impact Rondo has on this team. By my own calculations Rondo generates more offense and scoring (assists and points combined) than Lebron, Kobe, Durant and Carmelo. So needless to say, getting him back will be huge. Semih Erden should also come back from his illness soon, and although he is not nearly as much of an impact as Rondo, with KG out he will need to step up. Later in the season Delonte and Perk will be coming back in time for the playoffs. Perkins is already practicing and will be a huge addition when he comes back, being one of if not the best defensive center in the league. When Delonte's wrist heals he will be a big addition to the second unit, he played well in the second unit being the go to scorer late in the shot clock. Getting Delonte back will just add to the strength of the bench, the best bench in the league.  Don't worry the Celtics will be at their best when it mattes most, playoff time. The worst of the injuries have occurred at the right time, as we will be able to have our full roster come playoff time. Fingers crossed, there will be no more major injuries to the Celtics, if there isn't then I'm not worried, because come playoff time if they're healthy, watch out.
(Side Note- Pierce had 33 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. He's still got it and can carry this team through the injuries)

As expected the Patriots stole the show with the Pro Bowl roster. What is most "shocking" to all other teams in the NFL and so-called NFL experts and media that say our D is sub-par and not what it used to be. Is that we have more defensive players than any other team in the Pro Bowl. That's right, more than the Jets*, the Ravens, Steelers, Packers and Chargers. Also we* have more defensive players going than we do offensive.  That being said why don't they just have the whole Pats offense go to Hawaii, I'm confident that the Pat's offense could outscore the AFC and NFC pro bowl teams combined against any defense. It's sad but honestly I'm wondering why more players from the Pats didn't get taken. Like yeah six players and most of any team in the NFL is cool and all, but this is the best Patriots team ever* and they easily could've had ten or more players going to Hawaii. But I'm happy that we don't have an obnoxious amount of players going like how I wouldn't be mad if Brady doesn't get MVP* (if he doesn't get it, it will be the worst MVP decision since Barkley got it over Jordan* in the 92-93 season)  because that's not what we are about in New England. Peyton Manning, the Jets and all other "elite" teams can have their pro bowls, MVP's, tv shows, foot fetish videos, and other accolades but in New England we play for keeps. From the start of every season there is one goal and it is not to have the most players in the pro bowl, be the MVP, have the best tv show on HBO, be the funniest coach, be in the most commercials, release the most foot-fetish videos* or go to the playoffs. No it is none of that, in New England the only goal is to bring home the Lombardi trophy and along with the team we as fans expect nothing less. That is why we are the best team in the NFL, because we are the only focused team in the NFL, the only team that cares only about winning and most importantly winning the Super Bowl. And the only humble team* in the NFL. But it all starts with Belichick,  the greatest coach ever* he is the only totally focused and humble coach in the NFL and he instills it in every player*  and it works. So after that whole the Patriots are the best rant* I have concluded that it is great for Brady, Wilfork, Mankins, Mayo, Meriweather and McCourty that they have been honored to be chosen to go to Hawaii and it is a real bummer that they will have to respectfully decline the invitation as they will have some preparing and resting to do because they will have the biggest game of their lives in one week*.

*The Jets defense is incredibly overrated, just because Rex Ryan brags and raves about his D all the time and Belichick quietly makes his D better every week instead of bragging about them is why everyone thinks the Jets D is great and better than the Pats. But the truth is the "super power" Jet's D let up 45 points to the Pats and the Pats D let up 3 to the Jets O, that's not three touchdowns that's three points.
*I will refer to the Patriots and any other team I support as we because it is easier and because as an incredibly loyal fan, I feel I've earned the right to refer to myself as one with the Pats
*That's right better than the 18-0 2007 team. We have a better offense, in '07 the O was one dimensional. There was no run game and our passing game relied mainly on the deep ball which provided larger room for error and was easier to stop. Also, our D is a lot better, we are not relying completely on the O to win games for us like we did in '07.
*God knows that I would and Brady would trade that 2007 MVP trophy for the 2007 Lombardi trophy.
*This is the first of many Michael Jordan references and mentions to him. I love Jordan, seriously he's the best ever. But that's another story.
*Also, the first of many shots taken at Rex Ryan and mentions of the foot-fetish videos, the weirdest and funniest story of the year. Rex is not a good coach he has pretty good players but when it comes to the big game that requires real preparation he is lost and can't prepare his team to win. (Losses on Game 1 after a whole off season to prepare, loss after the bye week and loss after ten days to prepare for the Pats)
*I loved the humble pie t-shirts in the '07 season, I think we should bring 'em back
*The first of many praises of Belichick, I love Belichick he's best coach in the NFL
*And for every player that does not agree is out without the Pat's breaking a stride with their departure (Randy Moss, Assante Samuel and Lawyer Milloy to name a few, the list is endless)
*I will go on those from time to time cause let's face it they are the best
*Whose idea was it to put the pro bowl a week before the Super Bowl, that is the worst idea ever. Shouldn't the two best teams have the best players and the most in the pro bowl and wouldn't it make sense to have it when all the best players could go? It's probably to keep those whiny Colt's players from complaining the whole two weeks before the super bowl about how they should be in it and how the Patriots cheat.
*And if you're annoyed by the fact that these asterisks take up as much space as the article, then blame it on my favorite sports analyst, Bill Simmons. He did it in his Book of Basketball (great book btw I recommend it to every NBA fan) and I liked it so I decided to do it.

First, let me promise you that this will be the most boring post you will read on this site, and if I were you I probably  wouldn't even read it. But, if you think it will be boring for you to read just picture me writing it. So for both of our sakes I will keep it brief and we can get to the fun stuff. Anyways here it goes. This is a site filled with Boston sports stories and opinions on them. Along with Boston sports there will be many other posts such as rap and popular news stories. As the reader you will be able to comment on all stories. All comments, positive or negative are appreciated (positive will be appreciated more). I will try to post new stories every day but I will apologize in advance for days that I do not have the time to post new stories. I regret to say that analyzing sports is not my job.....yet. Now I could talk about this site for another 5 paragraphs, but that's not fun for anyone, so onto the fun stuff.
